Shooting At Florida State University, Six Hospitalised, Suspect In Custody

After the incident unfolded, the students and faculty of Florida State University were asked to take shelter and wait for further instructions.

A shooting incident took place at Florida State University in the US on Thursday at noon, resulting in injuries to at least six people. The man involved in the shooting incident has been taken into police custody. The police have yet to reveal the identity of the suspect.

Though six people have been hospitalised, the immediate casualties are unknown. One person is said to be in a critical condition, the hospital authorities said, according to Associated Press. The other patients are in serious condition.

US President Donald Trump was also informed about the incident. In response, Trump stated that he had been fully briefed. "It’s a horrible thing. It’s horrible that things like this take place," he said, Associated Press reported.

“Our prayers are with our FSU family, and state law enforcement is actively responding,” Governor Ron DeSantis said in a post on X.

Praying For All: Attorney General 

After the incident erupted, Students and faculty were directed to continue to take shelter and wait for further instructions.

In a post on social media, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the Justice Department is in touch with FBI agents who are at the spot. “Our priority is the safety of everyone involved,” Bondi said on X. “We will keep updating as we learn more. Praying for all.”

Ryan Cedergren, a 21-year-old communications major, said he and around 30 others took shelter in the bowling alley located in the basement of the student union after witnessing students fleeing from a nearby bar.

“In that moment, it was survival,” Cedergren said.

Roughly 15 minutes later, university police arrived and escorted them out of the building. As they exited, Cedergren said he saw someone receiving emergency medical attention on the lawn.

Florida State University, where the incident took place, is among the state’s 12 public universities. Its main campus is in Tallahassee, close to the state Capitol, and currently enrolls about 44,300 students, according to its 2024 fact sheet.
