US Court Orders Return Of Maryland Man Wrongly Deported To El Salvador Prison

After a wrongful deportation, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to arrange the return of a Salvadoran national from El Salvador.

After a Maryland man was wrongly sent to an infamous jail in El Salvador, a federal judge on Friday ordered the Trump administration to make arrangements for his return to the United States, AP reported.

According to Abrego Garcia's lawyer and legal experts, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has fixed deportation errors in the past, so the ruling rejected the White House's argument that it lacks the authority to retrieve Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia because he is no longer in the US.

While Trump administration officials repeatedly claimed that Abrego Garcia is a dangerous gang member and that US courts had no jurisdiction over the case, the government promptly filed an appeal following the ruling.

Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Abrego Garcia's attorney, informed the judge at the hearing that the deportation lacked a valid reason.

“They admit they had no legal authorization to remove him to El Salvador,” Moshenberg said. “The public interest lies in the government following the law.”

Abrego Garcia's removal was inappropriate, according to government attorney Erez Reuveni. "That is not in dispute," Reuveni said.

Reuveni had requested a 24-hour extension from the judge so that the administration might maybe arrange for Abrego Garcia's return.

What White House Press Secretary Said?

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that, District Judge, Paula Xini, ought to get in touch with El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele "because we are unaware of the judge having jurisdiction or authority over the country of El Salvador."

The White House has described Abrego Garcia, 29, as an MS-13 gang member. However, Abrego Garcia’s attorneys have refuted the claim, stating there is no evidence linking him to MS-13.

Abrego Garcia married Jennifer Vasquez Sura, a US citizen. The couple are parents to their son and her two children from a previous relationship.
