Three people were killed and three others sustained injuries after a shooting broke out at a house in Maryland’s capital, Annapolis, on Sunday night. Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson told reporters that the shooting stemmed from an “interpersonal dispute” and that there was no further threat to the public, as reported by the news agency AP. Jackson did not elaborate on the relationship between the people involved in the incident but said that those killed ranged from their 20s to their 50s.
Following the incident, several police cars were seen in the residential area where the incident took place south of the city center and near the waterfront, as reported by AP. Issuing a news release, the police said that one of the injured was taken to a trauma center. According to the statement released, the suspect was in custody. The chief later described the person as a “person of interest” and that no charges had been filed.
Earlier, in another shooting incident in US, at least 9 people were shot at on Friday night, in San Francisco’s Mission District neighbourhood in what the police have called a “targeted and isolated incident”. All the victims have survived the shooting which happened during a block party, CNN quoted San Francisco Police Department Officer Eve Laokwansathitaya as saying during a press conference. “We can confirm there are 9 shooting victims — all are expected to survive their injuries,” the San Francisco Police Department said in a tweet.
According to CNN, the San Francisco Police Department was called to the scene at Mission District at 9 pm local time. Five of the victims were hospitalised, Santiago Lerma, a legislative aide to a San Francisco Board of Supervisors member, told the news outlet. One of the five wounded had to undergo surgery, while the rest were treated for minor injuries.
When police reached the spot they had located people with multiple gunshot wounds, officers called medics to treat the victims and transport them to hospitals, a police statement read.
This incident follows a shooting in California’s Sunnyvale city in which one person was shot dead and four others were injured. The incident took place when the suspect shot into a family's car, IANS reported. Interim Chief of Police Bill Vegas said the four injured persons, including three children, were taken to a hospital. The children did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, according to Chief Vegas.
