Kyiv Reports Bomb Threats At Schools As Students Return For Second Academic Year In War-Torn Ukraine

In a statement, Kyiv City Military Administration urged the people to remain calm and said evacuation would be decided by the schools.

New Delhi: Bomb threats were reported in the schools in Ukrainian capital Kyiv as students returned to classrooms for the second academic year since Russian invasion, news agency AFP reported. “We have received information about explosives in Kyiv's schools. All educational institutions are being checked by Kyiv police forces with the involvement of the State Emergency Service,” the news agency reported police spokeswoman Yulia Girdvilis as saying.

In a statement on messaging platform Telegram, Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) urged the people to remain calm and said evacuation would be decided by the schools.

According to Ukraine’s Education Ministry, around four million students have resumed school education, both virtually and in the classroom.

Taking to social media, head of Ukraine's presidential office, Andriy Yermak said, “The nation preserved the opportunity for children to go to Ukrainian school. Ukrainian teachers are real heroes.”

The official further said more than 3.6 million children attend school in the country, and this includes around 9,00,000 who study remotely.

“The main thing is that our children will study. And our educators, teachers and lecturers will teach. Because knowledge and culture are what distinguish us from the enemy,” AFP quoted commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, General Valery Zaluzhny as saying.

One Killed, Three Injured In Russian Shelling On Kherson: Report

One civilian was killed and three others were injured in Russian shelling on Ukrainian city Kherson on Friday, news agency Reuters reported.

A 34-year-old man was killed and three other people were injured in a Russian missile attack on Vinnytsia region, the regional governor said, reported Reuters.

"They are being provided with all necessary assistance," Serhiy Borzov wrote on Telegram.
