Almost Done! US House Kicks-Off Proceedings To Impeach President Trump After Capitol Riots

Post the voting, Trump will become the first president of America to be impeached twice, as lawmakers moved quickly to punish him for inciting insurrection in a speech which led to deadly rioting in the US Capitol last week.

New York: The US House of Representatives has initiated a session to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump after more than 215 House Democrats, 5 House Republicans voted against him. Post this, Trump will become the first president of America to be impeached twice, as lawmakers moved quickly to punish him for inciting insurrection in a speech which led to deadly rioting in the US Capitol last week. The House approved a resolution late Tuesday calling on Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to declare the president unable to serve. Hours before the session, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to Twitter and said, "Tonight, I have the solemn privilege of naming the Managers of the impeachment trial of Donald Trump." "President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government. He will remain a threat to national security, democracy and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office," reads part of the four-page impeachment bill. Unlike the last time Trump was impeached, when no House Republicans supported charges against him, the Republican support for impeaching Trump this time is growing, by the hour. It is already the fourth time a President is facing impeachment proceedings and Trump accounts for 50 per cent of that total. The other two US Presidents on that list of impeachment are - Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. The move is touted to be a shocking end for Trump's presidency as Democrats and a growing number of Republicans declare him "unfit for office" and said that he could do more damage after inciting a mob that ransacked the Capitol.
