Thailand & Cambodia Border Dispute

The advisory comes as Thailand and Cambodia witnessed their most deadly border clashes in over a decade on Thursday. Thai officials confirmed that 13 civilians and one Thai soldier were killed following rocket and artillery attacks. The clashes, which erupted on Thursday morning, are part of a long-running border dispute that has seen tensions escalate in recent weeks. Both sides have blamed each other for initiating the violence.

Thailand’s Defence Ministry spokesperson, Surasant Kongsiri, said that fighting took place in at least six areas on Thursday. The conflict intensified a day after a landmine explosion along the border injured five Thai soldiers, prompting Bangkok to withdraw its ambassador from Cambodia and expel Cambodia’s envoy. Thai authorities have also reported that over 100,000 civilians have fled the affected areas amid fears of further escalation.
