Rumours Of Nawaz Sharif’s Possible Return Stirs Political Pot In Pakistan

According to the report, rumours of Sharif's return has stoked a heated debate ahead of the next general elections and at a time when the Government and the Opposition are locked in a face-off

New Delhi: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s possible return to his homeland has stirred the political environment in the country, posing further challenges to the Imran Khan government, says an ANI report.

According to the report, rumours of Sharif's return has stoked a heated debate ahead of the next general elections and at a time when the Government and the Opposition are locked in a face-off, with both the sides defending their viewpoints.  

PML-N President and Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif had earlier categorically denied that Nawaz would be returning to Pakistan until he completely recovers. In a statement issued on Saturday, Shahbaz said that Nawaz might stay in the United Kingdom legally until the immigration tribunal rules on his appeal against the British Home Office’s rejection for extending his visas.

"It is inhuman to do politics on the health of a three-time premier. The government machinery is bent upon defaming Sharif for its politics, which is earning a bad name to the country," he said. Shahbaz further added that Nawaz would return to Pakistan after his complete recovery and when doctors in London would allow him to travel back home. 

Meanwhile, Vice President of the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz in a tweet had said that the visa issue had again proved how her father was on the nerves of the members from Imran Khan’s government. 

"This fake government has accepted its defeat to Nawaz Sharif who is the present and future of Pakistan. By targeting a towering personality, the stature of a pygmy cannot be elevated," she added.
