Quad Summit: PM Modi's First Face-To-Face Meet With US Prez Biden Since Russia-Ukraine Crisis In Tokyo Next Month
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and President of the United States, Joe Biden, will meet in Tokyo next month, for the Quad Summit to be held around May 24.
New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and President of the United States, Joe Biden, will meet in Tokyo next month, for the Quad Summit to be held around May 24.
The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), colloquially the Quad, is a diplomatic network of four countries – Australia, India, Japan, and the United States – committed to supporting an open, inclusive and resilient region.
The White House has confirmed the Modi-Biden bilateral meeting to be held in Japan. This will be a face-to-face meeting of Modi and Biden for the second time within a year. In September 2021, they met during the Quad summit.
Moreover, the Modi-Biden bilateral meeting to be held next month will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders in the midst of the situation arising due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Biden’s Trip To Korea And Japan From May 20 to 24
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement that President Biden will visit the Republic of Korea and Japan from May 20 to May 24 to further deepen ties between their governments, economies, and people.
“This trip will advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s rock-solid commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and to U.S. treaty alliances with the Republic of Korea and Japan,” Psaki said.
She further said that the trip will build on more than a year of intensive diplomacy with the Indo-Pacific, including the U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit on May 12-13 in Washington, D.C.

Psaki also said that in each country, President Biden will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts, which include the newly elected President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan.
“The leaders will discuss opportunities to deepen our vital security relationships, enhance economic ties, and expand our close cooperation to deliver practical results. In Tokyo, President Biden will also meet with the leaders of the Quad grouping of Australia, Japan, India, and the United States. We look forward to having further details to share about this trip soon,” Psaki said.
