In a departure statement before the two-day visit to Kazan, PM Modi emphasised the significance of BRICS, saying, "India values close cooperation within BRICS which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on a range of key issues concerning the global developmental agenda... The expansion of BRICS with the addition of new members last year has added to its inclusivity and agenda for the global good."
The 16th BRICS Summit, hosted by Russia, is seen as an attempt by non-Western powers to assert their influence amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the tense situation in West Asia.
