Pakistan: Imran Khan's PTI Nominates Omar Ayub As PM Candidate

Highlighting the perceived electoral irregularities, PTI leader Asad Qaiser condemned the February 8 polls, denouncing their credibility both domestically and internationally.

New Delhi: Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has nominated party's central general secretary Omar Ayub Khan as the prime ministerial candidate, Dawn reported. Earlier this week, the party declared its intention to ally with the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen at the federal and Punjab levels. Moreover, the party stated its intent to establish a coalition government with the Jamaat-i-Islami in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, Liaquat Baloch of JI later expressed disinterest in collaborating with PTI in the province, according to the Dawn report.

In a media briefing outside Adiala Jail, Qaiser said, “Every child knows about the rigging that took place in the elections and how our mandate was stolen regarding this, Khan sahib will give a date for nationwide protests by evening." He also stated Imran's directive to engage with various political entities protesting the election results, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s JUI-F, the Awami National Party, and the Qaumi Wattan Party.

Highlighting the perceived electoral irregularities, Qaiser condemned the February 8 polls, denouncing their credibility both domestically and internationally. He asserted plans for nationwide protests and pledged to engage with political parties for this cause, Dawn reported. In response to a question, he stated that PTI-backed candidates who had won the polls would not resign in any condition. The PTI leader further added that the party would call its parliamentary session in “a day or two”.

Imran Khan Selected Qaiser's Brother Aqibullah Khan As Speaker Of KP Assembly: Former Senator

Additionally, former senator Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif disclosed Imran Khan's selection of Qaiser's brother Aqibullah Khan as the speaker of the KP Assembly. Saif conveyed Imran's message regarding the US statement on the general elections. “We believe that the US has in every period either supported dictators or brought forward the most corrupt leaders and democracy was ridiculed by bringing such people,” Dawn quoted Barrister Saif as saying. “Imran Khan sahib has sent a message that the US has a chance to clean its past by keeping an eye on rigging in Pakistan’s elections,” he added.

Barrister Saif added that Imran Khan's remarks were a reaction to the US State Department's recent press briefing, which called for an investigation into allegations of electoral fraud and manipulation.
