Oprah Winfrey Nets Over $7 Million For Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Interview: Report
Expecting a huge audience to tune in Sunday evening to watch the interview, CBS is charging the advertisers a premium rate of about $325,000 for 30 seconds of air time.
American TV host Oprah Winfrey has netted over $7 million from her candid interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which drew attention across the globe. This price comes as CBS paid a licensing fee of $7 to 9 million to Winfrey's production company Harpo Productions, for the two-hour-long interview, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Expecting a huge audience to tune in Sunday evening to watch the interview, CBS is charging the advertisers a premium rate of about $325,000 for 30 seconds of air time during the program.
CBS, which has now got the rights to license the special interview in international markets including the UK, beat out rival networks ABC and NBC for the rights to air the interview. The interview runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET and airs on CBS owned-and-operated stations and affiliates as well as on CBS.com.
The special will feature two parts. Oprah will in the first segment have a one-on-one chat with Meghan Markle, who is African American and the first person of colour to marry into the family, where she discusses everything from stepping into life as a royal to marriage and motherhood.
In the second segment, Prince Harry will join the interview where he talks about the future, including the birth of their second child.
