Ranchi Breaking: Govt To Hold Talks With Devendra Mahto-Led Student Group Today

The student agitation in Ranchi continues as the Jharkhand government begins another round of talks with the protesting students. After discussions with one student group on Friday, the government is now set to meet the second faction led by Devendra Mahto at the State Guest House at around 10:30 am today. The Mahto-led group has been on hunger strike for the past six days and has formed an eight-member delegation to present its demands before the government. The protesters have divided their demands into urgent issues and long-term reforms. Devendra Mahto has made it clear that his hunger strike will continue until the urgent demands are addressed. One of the major demands is the cancellation of all examinations conducted by TDPL, which the protesters have described as a blacklisted agency. The group is also demanding a CBI inquiry and an Enforcement Directorate investigation into alleged irregularities. The movement intensified after the PT result was announced on July 2, with students raising allegations of irregularities on July 5. The protesters have pointed to arrests, resignations and raids following the allegations and are seeking a wider investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, talks between the government and the first student group on Friday lasted around one hour and 20 minutes. Students said the government heard their concerns and acknowledged their demands, but no concrete solution emerged from the meeting.
