'No Issue Ever Resolved In Indian TV Debates': Tharoor's Tweet On Imran Khan's Wish To Debate With PM Modi

Shashi Tharoor has reacted to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement that he would like to have a TV debate with Narendra Modi, to resolve differences between the two neighbouring countries.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has reacted to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement that he would like to have a television debate with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, to resolve differences between the two neighbouring countries. Reacting to Khan’s statement, Tharoor said on Tuesday that he agrees that "jaw-jaw is better than war-war" but asserted that no issues are ever resolved in Indian debates, only exacerbated.

Khan had made the remark on Tuesday, during an interview with Russia's state-run television network RT, media reports said. Khan made this remark on the eve of his maiden two-day visit to Moscow.

"I would love to debate with Narendra Modi on TV,” media reports quoted Khan as saying. Khan added that it would be so good for over a billion people of the subcontinent if differences between Pakistan and India could be resolved through a debate, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Tharoor reacted to Khan’s remarks through a tweet. Tharoor tweeted, “Dear @ImranKhanPTI, agree that "jaw-jaw is better than war-war", but no issues are ever resolved in Indian television debates, only exacerbated!” “And some of our anchors would be happy to ignite World War III if it would increase their TRPs….,” Tharoor wrote on Twitter.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, during his two-day Moscow visit, will hold talks with President Vladimir Putin and exchange views on major regional and international issues, the PTI report said.

During the interview, Khan commented on India-Pakistan issues, according to media reports. "I told them our only issue is Kashmir. Let’s sit down at [the] table and resolve it,” media reports quoted Khan as saying during the interview. Khan added that he knew “India better than most people”, and cited his contacts in India because of playing cricket for Pakistan.
