King Charles Releases First Photo For Royal Christmas Card As Monarch

King Charles and Queen Camilla are looking at each other in the photo for the first royal Christmas card after the former assumed the throne.

Buckingham Palace on Sunday released the first royal Christmas card after King Charles III assumed the throne. The photo on the card, taken at the Braemar games in Scotland on September 3, shows the then heir to the throne Charles and his wife Camilla.

According to CNN, the photo, chosen by King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, was taken by Sam Hussein at the Braemar Games five days before Queen Elizabeth II died.

The Braemar Games or the Braemar Highland Gathering celebrates traditional Scottish games, sports, and dancing in Braemar, a village 60 miles west of Aberdeen, which is close to the King's Balmoral summer residence.

The photo features the royal couple looking at each other. The King is wearing a beige suit and striped tie and Camilla is wearing a green hat and jacket in the photo. Charles was still the Prince of Wales and it was the first time in her 70-year-reign that Queen Elizabeth had missed the Braemar Games due to her ill-health.

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest serving monarch, passed away at 96 on September 8 at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands. She reigned for 70 years.

Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest at a state funeral at Westminster Abbey on September 19. Queen Elizabeth II's coffin was lowered into the family vault beneath St. George's Chapel. The Queen was laid to rest at Windsor Castle alongside her husband, Prince Philip, her sister, Princess Margaret, and her parents, Queen Elizabeth and King George VI.
