Israel Strike Hits Beirut Targetting Hezbollah Commander, 1 Killed

The Israeli army said that it targeted the Hezbollah commander responsible for a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last week.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday said that it carried out a targeted strike in the Lebanese capital Beirut, which is the base of the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah.

The Israeli army said that it targeted the Hezbollah commander responsible for a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last week.

"The IDF carried out a targeted strike in Beirut, on the commander responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams and the killing of numerous additional Israeli civilians. At the moment, there are no changes in the Home Front Command defensive guidelines. If any changes will be made, an update will be released," the Israel Defense Forces announced in a post on X.

As per the Lebanon's official news agency, the strike hit near the headquarters of Hezbollah’s Shura Council in the Haret Hreik neighborhood. Visuals from the spot showed smoke rising above Southern Beirut. However, there have been no reports of immediate casualties. Hezbollah's outlet Al-Manar said the drone fired three rockets at the building.

The report said that at least one person was killed and several wounded in the strike.

Beirut has been bracing for an attack in retaliation for a weekend rocket attack on the Golan Heights that killed 12 children as they played football. Israel and the US have blamed Hezbollah for the attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed a “harsh” response against the Iranian-backed militants.
