What Is Fattah-1? All About Iran’s Hypersonic Missile Launched At Israel

The Fattah-1 missile, originally unveiled in 2023, was named by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has launched its hypersonic missile, the Fattah-1, at Israel—marking what appears to be the weapon's first deployment in the ongoing conflict. The missile, originally unveiled in 2023, was named by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to the IRGC, this strike formed part of the 11th wave of Operation Honest Promise 3. The force claimed that the operation, executed with Fattah-1 missiles, had enabled Iran to achieve “complete control over the skies of the occupied territories”, as per a report on NDTV.

What Is Fattah-1 Missile?

Developed by the IRGC and revealed to the world in June 2023, the Fattah-1 is a medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile. It has been specifically engineered to evade cutting-edge defense systems such as Israel’s Iron Dome and Arrow, with Iranian officials referring to it as the “Israel-striker.”

The missile is capable of reaching speeds between Mach 13 and 15—around 15,000 km/h—and has a range of approximately 1,400 kilometers (about 870 miles). It carries a substantial warhead, estimated between 350–450 kg, and is believed to be equipped for conventional payloads, according to reports. While speculation about nuclear capability persists, no official confirmation has been made.

Israel Will Keep Acting To Degrade Iran’s Nuclear Programme: Envoy

Amid rising tensions, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, addressed the situation at a recent briefing. He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to using every means within its power to “degrade” Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, asserting that they pose a direct threat to national security.

"We'll continue to do what is in our capabilities to degrade Iran's nuclear programme," he told reporters when asked about the future course of the confrontation, as reported by PTI.
