Indian Passenger To Appear In Singapore Court Today For 'Drunken Misbehaviour' On Feb Flight

An Indian man was arrested in Singapore for threatening to kill a cabin crew member and causing a ruckus on a flight in February under the influence of alcohol, will face court on April 1.

An Indian man was arrested by Singaporean authorities for threatening to kill a cabin crew member and creating a ruckus on a Singapore-bound flight. According to a Mothership report, which cited a police release from March 31, the 42-year-old man will be present in court on April 1. He was arrested on February 27 for unruly behaviour while under the influence of alcohol.

The man disturbed the discipline in the flight by grabbing a passenger seated next to him and also irritated other passengers by forcefully pushing the seat in front of him.

The man reportedly remained aggressive even when the cabin crew intervened and attempted to calm him down. Amid the chaos, he grabbed the wrist of a male cabin crew member and verbally threatened to kill him.

The man behaved only after he was told that the plane would return to its departure destination if his aggressive behaviour continued. The cabin crew put him in restraints for the rest of the journey.

Once the flight landed in Singapore, the man was arrested at Changi Airport. He was charged with multiple offenses, including criminal force on a person, being intoxicated onboard, jeopardising good order and discipline, and criminal intimidation if the threat is to cause death. The last charge carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or both.

According to Mothership, the police said that physical aggression, verbal threats, and attempts to interfere with the crew's duties pose a serious risk to flight safety. They reminded air travellers to “adhere to air safety regulations and conduct themselves responsibly when onboard an aircraft”.

Last year, Ankit Kumar, a content creator, recently took to Instagram to share his concerns about passengers standing, gossiping, and eating mid-flight while traveling to Thailand.

In a video he posted, he captures several passengers standing in groups and chatting during the flight. Kumar highlighted that such behaviour was disruptive and needed to be addressed as it posed a potential safety risk to both passengers and crew members.

Kumar wrote that despite the cabin crew repeatedly asking those standing to return to their seats, their requests were ignored.
