India-Russia Summit 2021: 10 Agreements Expected To Be Signed In Various Fields Including Space, Defence

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov declined to name the agreements as he said they were yet to be finalised. "They are important for the development of bilateral ties in most diverse areas,” he added. 

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be meeting today for the 21st India-Russia summit. This first in-person meeting of the two, after meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in November 2019, will be held in Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Monday. 

A host of issues will be discussed during the meeting which would include the signing of more than 10 agreements. These agreements will be in various fields like space, culture, science and technology, defence among others, reported ANI. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov had said that the agreements would also include some semi confidential areas as well. "About 10 bilateral agreements will be signed, which are quite important and include some semi-confidential ones. Work is still ongoing on them. We are confident that the package of agreements will be signed as part of the visit,” Ushakov said. 

Ushakov however declined to name the agreements as he said they were yet to be finalised. "They are important for the development of bilateral ties in most diverse areas,” he added.

This summit will also witness the first 2+2 ministerial dialogue between defence and foreign affairs ministers of both the countries, said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and his Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar and Defence Minister of Russia Sergey Shoigu and Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold talks simultaneously on December 6. 

The areas that will be discussed in this first 2+2 format dialogue would include bilateral, regional and international issues, including the situation in Afghanistan post-Taliban takeover, threats emanating from terror groups, protection of human rights of minorities, women and children in Afghanistan.
