2-Year-Old Boy Urinates In Glass In Restaurant In China; Mother Says, 'He Could Not Hold It'

A customer described that while she and her friends were dining in the eatery, she discovered that a toddler at the table next to theirs stood up, took off his trousers, and peed in a glass.

In a surprising incident at a restaurant in Hangzhou, China, a two-year-old boy urinated into a glass meant for customers. However, the mother of the child has justified the act saying, "he could not hold it in anymore". Soon, the incident, gained traction on Chinese social media, being labeled as "Haidilao Urinating Gate 2.0.", reported the South China Morning Post.

The whole incident was exposed to news outlet The Cover by a customer identified with surname, Tang, who was present at the Fuyuanju Restaurant in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

Tang described that while she and her friends were dining in the eatery on March 13, she discovered that a toddler at the table next to theirs stood up, took off his trousers, and peed in a glass.

She added that the glass in which the boy peed was not a disposable utensil but was meant to serve customers. The act of the boy was supported by his mother and two elderly relatives. “When the boy said he wanted to urinate, one elderly individual went to get a bin, suggesting the boy to pee there. But the boy’s mother said, ‘just let him pee directly into the glass,’” Tang was quoted as saying.

She further noted about the incident that despite the boy’s table being near their counter, no members of the restaurant staff intervened to stop the toddler.

As the glass containing urine remained on the table, Tang and her friends found the smell unbearable and requested a restaurant worker to handle the situation.

Verbal Dispute Between Restaurant Owner And Customer

The child's mother explained to the worker: “We are sorry that the kid could not really hold it any more. So he peed in the cup.”

During a discussion with the restaurant owner, Tang requested a discount or complimentary fruit as compensation, but the owner refused, accusing her of causing trouble. Following a verbal dispute, Tang settled her bill of 316 yuan (US$44) and left the restaurant.

Local market authorities launched an investigation after verifying the incident. Officials stated that the restaurant staff had already disposed of the contaminated glass.

After mediation, the restaurant owner apologised to Tang and provided a refund along with 1,000 yuan (US$140) in compensation. While Tang accepted the apology and the refund, she declined the additional compensation.

The popular hotpot chain Haidilao has been dealing with a PR crisis since mid-March when two teenagers urinated in a hotpot soup and posted the video online. The company later spent millions compensating affected diners at that particular outlet.
