Gunshots Fired At US Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris' Campaign Office In Arizona
Law enforcement is labelling the incident as a property crime as no one was at the office during the firing.
Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign office in US's Arizona was damaged after gunshots were fired at it after midnight on Monday, according to police. The incident came just over a week after a second assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
Damage from several bullets was discovered at the Democratic National Committee campaign office near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive in Tempe, The Post quoted the Tempe Police Department as saying.
As per Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Cook, no one was inside the office during the overnight hours. However, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby, Cook said.
It’s the second time criminal damage was reported at the office in two many weeks. On September 16, just after midnight, the front windows were reportedly shot with what appears to be a BB gun or pellet gun.
So far, no arrests have been made in either incident. As per media reports, cops are currently analyzing evidence collected at the scene. Additional measures have also been taken to beef up security for staff and others in the area.
Law enforcement is labelling the incident as a property crime as no one was at the office during the firing, The Associated Press reported.
“We are grateful to Tempe Police for coming quickly to the scene and are fortunate no one was present or injured,” Sean McEnerney, the Arizona Democratic Party coordinated campaign manager, said in a statement, according to the AP.
The shooting comes on the heels of the second attempt on Trump’s life at his West Palm Beach golf course on September 15.
Gun violence has been a campaign issue for Harris — a gun owner — as a Democrat presidential candidate. Throughout her campaign, she has called for the banning of assault weapons. During a recent interview with Oprah, Harris made headlines for saying she would shoot an intruder if they entered her home.
