Flights Cancelled, Delayed After Major Power Cut At UK's Manchester Airport

The electricity was restored after some time at the international airport, but passengers due to travel from Terminals 1 and 2 were told to "not come to the airport" as all flights were cancelled.

The flights are the UK's third-busiest airport were delayed or cancelled on Sunday after a major power cut in Manchester.

The Manchester Airports Group, which also operates London Stansted and the East Midlands airports, said Manchester Airport had been "affected by a major power cut in the area earlier this morning."

The electricity was restored after some time at the international airport in the north of England, but passengers due to travel from Terminals 1 and 2 were told to "not come to the airport" as all flights were cancelled "until further notice".

The airport said its electricity supply went off at around 01:30 but has since been restored. However, it would take time to get systems up and running again.

The  Manchester Airport operator said that while passengers already checked in were scheduled to depart as planned, however, the disruption meant "some baggage may not be on those flights".

"We will work with airlines and handling partners to reunite affected passengers with their luggage as soon as possible", the operator said.

According to the BBC, huge queues were formed when a quarter of all flights from the Manchester airport had to be cancelled because of the power outage.

Airport officials said that the flights from Terminals 1 and 2 were stopped in the early hours, affecting baggage and security systems.
