'I May Do It...': Trump On Suspense Over US Intervention In Middle East, Says 'Iran Has Got A Lot Of Trouble'

Tensions escalate as Israel strikes Iranian nuclear sites, prompting Iranian retaliation. Trump ambiguously threatens potential US action against Iran while also claiming Ayatollah Khamenei is an "easy target."

US President Donald Trump has refused to clarify whether a decision has been made on potential military involvement in Iran, amid intensifying tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv. While speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn, Trump said, “You don’t know that I’m going to even do it. You don’t know. I may do it, I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do.”

He added that Iran is in trouble and seeking negotiations, but remarked, “It’s very late to be talking. I don’t know — there’s a big difference between now and a week ago.”

As Israel continues its military operations against Iranian-linked targets, Trump reiterated that “nothing’s finished until it’s finished,” emphasising the unpredictability of war. “War is very complex. A lot of bad things can happen. A lot of turns are made,” he added. According to Trump, the coming days could be decisive: “The next week is going to be very big. Maybe less.”

“Keep Going”: Trump Says He Encouraged Netanyahu On Iran Campaign

The US President disclosed that he has been in constant communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, endorsing his leadership during the conflict. “I speak to him every day,” Trump told CNN. “He’s a good man, doing a lot.”

When asked about any commitment of further support to Israel, Trump said he had not made such a promise, but praised Netanyahu’s handling of the situation: “So far, he’s done a good job. He has been treated very unfairly. He’s a wartime president, and he’s going through this nonsense, it’s ridiculous.”

Trump also appeared dismissive of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s suggestion to mediate the conflict. “I said do me a favour — mediate your own. Let’s mediate Russia first, OK?” he said.

Iran Retaliates With Missiles, Drones After Israeli Strikes On Nuclear Sites

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, earlier vowed that the Islamic Republic would “never surrender” in its confrontation with Israel. In a televised speech on Wednesday, Khamenei rejected Trump’s call for “unconditional surrender,” declaring it “unacceptable” and warning the US of “irreparable damage” if military action is pursued, as reported by AFP.

His comments came after a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear-related facilities. Citing the Israeli military, AFP reported that over 50 fighter jets targeted infrastructure near Tehran, including centrifuge and weapons production sites. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed damage to buildings used for manufacturing centrifuge components in Karaj and advanced rotor testing facilities in Tehran.

Iran retaliated by launching Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles towards Tel Aviv. According to AFP, Israeli defence systems intercepted incoming threats, with no missiles striking the city. Iran also released a drone swarm toward Israeli territory, of which ten were reportedly intercepted. The Israeli military acknowledged one of its drones was downed in Iranian airspace.

“We Know Where He’s Hiding”: Trump’s Stark Message To Khamenei

On Tuesday, Trump stirred speculation further by issuing a warning via his Truth Social platform, stating, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.”

This message followed his early exit from the G7 summit in Canada, where leaders pushed for de-escalation while backing Israel’s right to self-defence. Later, Trump held a high-level meeting with the US National Security Council, though no final word on direct military intervention was released. CNN has reported that the President is growing increasingly inclined to target Iranian nuclear facilities, while losing interest in pursuing a diplomatic path.

Asked about Khamenei’s declaration that Iran would never back down, Trump offered a terse response: “I say, good luck.” On the question of whether his patience with Tehran had ended, he said, “It’s already run out — that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing.”
