Amid Covid Surge, US Asks Citizens To Reconsider Travel Plans To India
This new advisory comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level-3 Travel Health Notice for India due to a high level of Covid-19 cases in the country.
New Delhi: Amid the rise in Covid cases in the country, the US on Tuesday asked its citizens to reconsider any travel plans to India.
This new advisory comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level-3 Travel Health Notice for India due to a high level of Covid-19 cases in the country.
“Your risk of contracting Covid-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorised vaccine,” the US State Department on Tuesday said in a statement. It also said that the citizens planning a visit to other countries should review the CDC's recommendations for the vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.
Meanwhile, the US State Department also urged the Americans to exercise increased caution in India due to its crime and terrorism.
"Do not travel to: The state of Jammu and Kashmir (except the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh) due to terrorism and civil unrest. Within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border due to the potential for armed conflict," the advisory said as quoted by news agency PTI.
It is to be noted that in last year November, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had issued a Level-1 notice for Covid-19 to the Americans travelling to India.
Meanwhile, the Covid tally of India crossed the 40 million mark after the country logged 285,914 new infections in the last 24 hours. The fresh fatalities pushed the Covid toll to 491,127. More than 37.3 million patients have recuperated from the virus till now.
