Afghanistan: Suicide Bombing At Educational Centre In Kabul Kills 19 People, 27 Wounded

A Taliban official confirmed the blast in a Shiite neighborhood in Kabul on Friday morning. The suicide bombing was at an educational centre in the Afghan capital.

New Delhi: A suicide bombing took place at an educational centre  in a Shiite area of Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Friday morning. A Taliban-appointed spokesperson for the Kabul police chief said that 19 people were killed and 27 were wounded in the incident.

According to the Associate Press, spokesperson Khalid Zadran said that the explosion took place in the Dashti Barchi neighborhood of Kabul. The area is populated mostly by members of Afghanistan’s minority Shiite community.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier, a Taliban official confirmed the blast in the Shiite neighborhood Friday morning. Local media reported the blast was inside an education center in the Dashti Barchi area.

The explosion was at an educational centre in the Afghan capital, AFP reported citing the police.

Abdul Nafi Takor, a Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said the blast was in the early morning but was unable to provide more details.

“Our teams have dispatched at the site of the blast to find out more details,” Takor said, as quoted by the AP.

The Islamic State group, which is a top rival of the Taliban, has previously targeted mosques and worshippers, especially members of Afghanistan’s Shiite community in attacks.
