The party has stated in its complaint that on March 27, PM's visit to Urakundi in Bangladesh was done for political purpose as BJP MP Shantanu Thakur was also present along with PM during that visit.

TMC alleged that his visit to the neighbouring country had nothing to do with either the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh or the birth centenary of 'Bangabandhu'. Rather, they were intended to influence the voters in certain constituencies for the ongoing elections to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Dhaka on Friday to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s nationhood. On his two-day visit to the neighbouring country, the Indian leader gifted 1.2 million doses of domestically produced Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a part of its vaccine diplomacy programme.

He also handed over a representational key of 109 life-saving ambulances to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

Days after his visit, hundreds of people mostly from the hardline Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam, as well as students affiliated with Left parties staged protests over the Indian leader’s visit.

According to reports, the protesters accused him of stoking communal violence against Muslims in his country. They accused Modi of discriminating against minority Muslims in Hindu-majority India.
