VSSC ISRO Recruitment: Fabricated Devices, Shirts With Camera Lens Used For Cheating Test, Say Police

The police also revealed that the modus operandi indicated that the accused had already been involved in similar crimes in the past.

Kerala police found various devices used to fabricate materials and impersonate candidates in recruitment test for Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) on Sunday. The police on Tuesday said that specially fabricated electronic devices and custom-made shirts to hold camera lens among others were part of "organised" plan to impersonate candidates to cheat in the recruitment exam for the space centre. They also revealed that the modus operandi indicated that they have been involved in similar crimes in the past.

According to PTI, Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam said, the investigation in the case would not only focus on IT but also an all-India probe to determine whether similar incidents had previously occurred in other states.

"Huge amount of money is also involved in it. It is evident from the fact that they (accused) arrived here by flight a couple of days before the test. They are a well-organised team," the officer said, as per the report.

Talking to a TV channel, Chakilam said that the accused were carrying out measures to make those who paid them to clear the test.

They also revealed that they recovered three gadgets from the accused.

On the device, Chakilam said that the devices used by the team did not appear like new ones nor was a branded one. It looked like ones made by local technical experts for the purpose and it also appeared to be used.

He added that the unique device also had a sim card, allowing it to transmit the queries outside and receive the responses through the earpiece.

On Sunday night, police arrested two persons from Haryana at two separate centres while they were impersonating and cheating in the test. The police have made people who speak Haryanavi interrogate the accused in custody about the conspiracy.

Two others from the state have been also arrested in connection with the incident on Monday.

After the details came to light, the police established a thorough investigation on Monday. Later that day, the VSSC decided to cancel the exam.
