‘Greedy Congress Leaders Blocking New Faces’: Ahmed Patel’s Daughter To Rahul Gandhi After Gujarat Remark

Mumtaz Patel urged Rahul Gandhi to identify and remove Congress members conniving with the BJP within the party.

Mumtaz Patel, daughter of former Congress veteran Ahmed Patel, urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to identify workers from within the party who are working in tandem with the BJP and weed them out.

She appealed to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and said that the Congress has been unable to “fulfil the expectations of people of Gujarat” due to a section of party leaders “conniving with the BJP from within”.

Reacting to the statement, Patel said Gandhi will meet with the party's state unit leaders.

"Today's speech made from Ahmedabad has been very encouraging for party workers. He met the ground workers and I think today's speech was the result of that feedback wherein people told him that there are many working in tandem with the BJP," Patel said

"It is a hostile government, you have BJP govt for 27 years. They harass Congress workers, it is difficult for people if they don't have the support from top. Probably Rahulji has got the right feedback, I hope he has identified the people to weed them out," she added.

Rahul Gandhi In Ahmedabad

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was in Ahmedabad on Saturday where he made these remarks while addressing the party workers on his two-day visit.

In his address, Gandhi emphasised on the need to "seive out" the detractors which would enable people in the state to trust the party. He said that he had decided to  “build a relationship” with the people of Gujarat and “manifest the hidden confidence” of the Congress.

"There are two types of people in the Gujarat Congress leadership and among workers. Those who are honest with people, fight for them, respect them and have the ideology of the Congress in their heart. And the others who are cut off from the people sit far away, do not respect them, and half of whom are with the BJP," he said.
