New Delhi: Amid the uproar by opposition Leaders over new words categorised as 'unparliamentary', Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said that no word had been "banned" in either house. "Earlier a book of such unparliamentary words used to be released... to avoid wastage of papers, we have put it on internet. no words have been banned, we have issued a compilation of the words that have been expunged," Birla said. Addressing a press conference, the speaker also urged political personalities to not mislead people as no words are banned.

"Have they (Opposition) read this 1,100-page dictionary (comprising unparliamentary words)? If they had... would not have spread misconception... It's been released in 1954, 1986, 1992, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2010... began releasing on a yearly basis since 2010," he added.

According to a new booklet by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the use of words like 'jumlajeevi', 'Baal buddhi', 'Covid spreader' and 'Snoopgate', 'ashamed', 'abused, 'betrayed', 'corrupt', 'drama', 'hypocrisy' and 'incompetent' will be considered unparliamentary in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

"It is a routine practice continuing since 1954," he said referring to the release of the booklet compiling lists of words and expressions deemed unparliamentary.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Speaker has called an all-party meeting on Saturday ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has also called a meeting of leaders of all parties on Sunday. Apart from this, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister has called the leaders of all political parties on Sunday morning to discuss the smooth conduct of the session.
The Monsoon session of Parliament will start on 18th July and will continue till 12th August, during which Presidential elections will be held on 18th July and Vice Presidential elections will also be held on 6th August.
