The leaked document reveals more details like fuel tank capacity, gear ratios and more

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 And Continental GT 650 Service Manual Leaked; Reveals More Details

With just a few more months to go for launch, detailed specifications of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have surfaced online. While we already knew the engine configurations, power figures and some details of underpinnings of both motorcycle, the service manual reveals more detailed specifications.

We already know that both motorcycles pack the same, brand new 650cc, parallel-twin, oil-cooled engines developed from the ground up by RE. This motor produces 47.7PS of power and 52Nm of torque, with fuel injection as standard. What the service manual reveals though is its compression ratio of 9:5:1. This should result in a relaxed state of tune, and is expected to return a better fuel efficiency.

The 6-speed gearbox, along with a new slipper clutch, will also be the first seen on any Royal Enfield. And now, the service manual reveals that its gear ratios are shorter than the ones on the Kawasaki Z650 that also comes with a 650cc parallel-twin motor. The final drive ratio is taller on the RE twins though.

In theory, this should mean that both the RE Twins accelerate quicker than the Z650. However, given the (kerb) weight of both the motorcycles (Interceptor - 202kg Conti GT - 198kg) and the amount of power they make, it might not be true. We’ll reserve our verdict on this only after a real-world test has been done.

Both the motorcycles are built on a steel cradle frame, which is suspended upon 41mm forks with 110mm of wheel travel and twin rear shock absorbers with 87.5mm of wheel travel. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm disc at the front and 240mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS offered as standard.

The Interceptor 650 packs a 13.7-litre fuel tank, while the Continental GT 650 gets a 12.5-litre fuel tank. In comparison, the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Kawasaki Z650 have 13.1-litre and 15-litre fuel tanks respectively.

Both the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 get 18-inch wheels on both ends with 100/90 front and 130/70 rear section tyres. Seat height is a bit taller though, at 804mm. In comparison, the Street 750 and the Kawasaki Z650 have a more accessible seat height of 720mm and 790mm respectively. Considering the condition of our roads, ground clearance is a healthy 174mm.

As mentioned earlier, the new flagship offerings from Royal Enfield are expected to hit the showrooms during the Diwali season. Hence, a slightly expensive pricing of Rs 3 to 3.5 lakh shouldn't be surprising. While the leaked brochure does offer some new insights into the two motorcycle, the majority of it is already known to the public since their debut at EICMA last year.
