Karnataka Home Minister Dismisses Jaishankar's Claims On Delay In Cancellation Of Prajwal Revanna's Passport

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara questioned whereabouts of the letter sent by CM Siddaramaiah to Prime Minister Modi in April which sought the revocation of the suspended JDS leader's passport.

A day after the Ministry of External Affairs stated that they had only received the state government's request to impound the diplomatic passport of the absconding Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna on May 21, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara criticised the Centre on Saturday. He questioned the whereabouts of the letter sent by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April which sought the revocation of the suspended JDS leader's passport.

In a response to the statement of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Parameshwara as per PTI told reporters: "I too saw the media report. If he (S Jaishankar) said so, then it means that the PMO did not inform the Ministry of External Affairs. The Chief Minister wrote the letter in April itself and the EAM says he received it on May 21."

"What happened to the letter in the Prime Minister's Office? Didn't it get the value it deserved or did the PMO not inform the External Affairs Ministry?" he asked.

Parameshwara claimed that he could see how the Centre was functioning and pointed out that once Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport was cancelled he would have to return to India as he would lose his immunity to stay abroad.

On request to impound the passport of Karnataka JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna who fled to Germany amid sexual assault allegations, EAM Dr S Jaishankar on Friday said, "MEA got this request from Karnataka only on 21st May. We acted on it and the procedure was initiated..."

Prajwal, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch H. D. Deve Gowda and the NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency is facing allegations of sexually abusing women. Reports indicate that Prajwal departed for Germany on April 27, the day after the elections in Hassan, and remains at large.
