PM Modi's Principal Advisor PK Sinha Resigns On 'Personal Grounds': Reports

PK Sinha was appointed as the Principal Advisor to Prime Minister in 2019 following the general elections, after he retired as the Cabinet Secretary. The appointment order had said his tenure would be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever came earlier.

New Delhi: PK Sinha, the Principal Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday tendered his resignation citing "personal grounds".

According to the news agency IANS, the former Cabinet Secretary and the retired 1977-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre put in his papers on Monday evening. With no specific reason out yet, the move by one of the Prime Minister's most trusted aides has raised several questions.

Sinha was appointed as the Principal Adviser to PM in 2019 following the general elections, after he retired as the Cabinet Secretary. The appointment order had said his tenure would be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever came earlier.

Prior to being appointed as the Principal Advisor to Prime Minister, the veteran former bureaucrat was earlier made the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Prime Minister's Office in 2019 after PM Modi accepted the request of his Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra to be relieved from the post.

Sinha has held several senior positions at the centre during his career. He had served as the Cabinet Secretary from June 13, 2015 to August 30, 2019.

Sinha in the past also served as the Secretary in the Ministries of Power and Shipping and as a Special Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
