'Oppn Should Get Sufficient Time In House To Raise Issue': Congress Tells LS Speaker At All-Party Meet

After the meeting, Lok Sabha Speaker told that the session will start on July 18 and will continue till August 12.

New Delhi: Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament starting on Monday (July 18), Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday chaired the meeting of leaders of all political parties and briefed them on the preparations related to the Session. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK MP TR Baalu, Union Minister and BJP leader Pralhad Joshi, BJP MP Arjun Ram Meghwal, YSRCP MP PV Mithunreddy, RLJP MP Pashupati Kumar Paras and MPs from other parties attended the meeting.

"Have demanded discussion on Agnipath, unemployment, farmers' issues," said Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

In the upcoming session, the opposition is likely to surround the government on key issues like the Agnipath scheme, unemployment and inflation, and alleged misuse of investigative agencies.

After the meeting, Lok Sabha Speaker told that the session will start on July 18 and will continue till August 12. Discussions were held with the leaders of all the parties regarding the session. 

"I have appealed to all party leaders to hold discussions on key issues currently facing us, in the interest of the country. Leaders of all parties have assured that we will cooperate in the proceedings of the House," said Om Birla.

The central government has prepared 24 bills to be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament. These include the Cantonment Bill, the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, which list 24 bills. 

According to a bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Cantonments Bill proposes to achieve greater developmental objectives in alignment with municipalities across the country. 

The Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill seeks to rationalise the role of the government in cooperatives and increase participation in the working of multi-state cooperatives. 

Similarly, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill seeks to strengthen the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code by introducing provisions on cross-border insolvency and introducing certain other amendments for the time-bound resolution of stressed assets.

Venkaiah Naidu's term as Vice President ends on August 10, in the middle of the monsoon session. On July 18, the votes for the presidential election are to be cast. On the other hand, the election of the Vice President will be held on 6th August.

The Speaker of the Lok Sabha holds an all-party meeting before the start of every Parliament session. The monsoon session of Parliament will begin on July 18.
