New Delhi: The water level in the river Yamuna in the national capital recorded at 204.70 meters today, crossing the warning level of 204.50 meters. It is now growing close to the "danger mark" pegged at 205.33m, authorities said. The Delhi government earlier on Sunday sounded a flood alert for the city and asked people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places as the water level in the Yamuna river is expected to cross the danger mark today, officials said. Hundreds live along the banks of the Yamuna, and they will be moved to safer places once the water level touches the "warning mark". Meanwhile, at least 30 people have lost their lives, while dozens are reported missing or feared dead as relentless rains hammered north India causing widespread flooding, landslides, damage to roads and buildings. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will chair the meeting. • Delhi CM on Twitter said, "Am meeting officers from all concerned depts at 1 pm to assess the situation and the preparations." • The Delhi government on Sunday issued an advisory, asking people living in low-lying areas to shift to safer places, as the water levels in the river Yamuna inched close to the danger mark. • The Yamuna was flowing at 203.37 metres on Sunday evening and its water level is expected to rise up to 207 metres on Monday as 8.28 lakh cusecs water was released from Haryana's Hathini Kund barrage at 6 pm, an official said. • The East Delhi district in its oder has directed all sub-divisional magistrates to evacuate people from low-lying areas with the help of Delhi Police and civil defence volunteers by 9 am on Monday. • The Delhi government said preparations are being made to erect tents in nearby areas to accommodate the people living in the low-lying areas. • In July last year, traffic movement on Old Yamuna Bridge in Delhi was closed for a few days after the water level breached the danger mark. • Yamuna's water level had reached 205.5 metres last year.
