Maharashtra Govt Cancels Exams For Classes 1 To 8 As Covid Threat Looms Large, All Students To Be Promoted

The state Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Saturday announced that all students across Maharashtra State from Class 1 to 8 would be promoted to the next class without any final examination.

In view of the current COVID19 situation in the state, Maharashtra government has decided to cancel the exams and promote all students from classes 1 to 8 to the next class.

The state Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Saturday announced that all students across Maharashtra State from Class 1 to 8 would be promoted to the next class without any final examination while the decision regarding promoting students of Classes 9 and 11 is yet to be taken.

In a video message posted on her official Twitter account, Varsha Gaikwad said, "Announcement: In view of the ongoing situation due to #Covid 19, all state board students across Maharashtra state from Class 1st to Class 8th will be promoted to the next class without any examinations. A decision regarding students of class 9th and 11th will soon be taken."

It is to be noted that the students of these classes have been  demanding online exams this year as the entire academic year has been held online due to the Coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra board examination for class 10 and 12  will be held as per schedule in offline mode. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has insisted that all possible precautions would be taken by the board to conduct the examinations in a safe and secure manner.

The board has also offered several relaxations including reduced syllabus. moreover, students have been granted permission to take the exams in their respective schools. 

Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state, Udhav Thackery-led government is expected to decide on fresh restrictions which could be stricter to curb the worsening pandemic situation. Maharashtra has on Friday reported 48,000 new COVID-19 cases and 202 deaths, the biggest single-day spike since the start of the pandemic.
