Tamil Nadu Elections 2021: Kamal Haasan To Fight Upcoming Polls; Constituency To Be Announced Soon
Actor Kamal Haasan will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. He also said that the constituency will be announced soon.
New Delhi: Actor, director and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan, is going to contest the upcoming elections. According to reports he announced the decision while campaigning in Madurai. The Constituency from where he will be fighting elections will also be declared soon. He confirmed this during the second day of his election campaign.
"I will definitely contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. I will announce about the constituency later as to where I will contest from," said Haasan while speaking in Madurai.
He started his four-day-long election campaign on Sunday from Madurai. He will be covering Theni, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, and Kanyakumari.
His party was launched on February 21, 2018, and he had also contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. But it failed to make an impact in Tamil Nadu.

According to a report by ANI, Haasan on Sunday said his party will take forward "the dream of Purachithalaivar MGR to establish Madurai as the second capital of Tamil Nadu. He also said that his party is people-centric. Earlier this month Rajinikanth announced that he will be launching his political party in January and added that a major announcement expected at the end of this month.
"A political party will be launched in January; Announcement regarding it will be made on December 31st," the south Indian superstar said in a tweet.
He also said, "In the upcoming assembly elections, we will definitely win the assembly elections and give an honest, transparent, corruption free and spiritual politics without any difference to any religion or caste."
Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam had also welcomed Rajnikanth's decision to float a political party and had said that the two parties could form an alliance.
Political experts say, that after the demise of J. Jayalalithaa and Kaliagnar Karunanidhi there is a vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics. The southern state's political history has many film stars tuning into politicians. Whether Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will be able to make an impact remains to be seen.
The assembly elections of Tamil Nadu, which is due in 2021, are being considered as, the litmus test for the Chief Minister of State E Palaniswami, as he will be contesting as the CM candidate from the party, for the first time, after former CM Jayalalithaa.
In the 234-seat state assembly of the state, AIADMK headed by E Palaniswami has a majority of 124 seats. While the opposition headed by MK Stalin has 105 seats, which consists of DMK, Congress, and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
