Yogi government makes marriage registration compulsory in UP
A few minority community organisations protested against the decision and called it an interference with personal laws.
New Delhi: Now, couples in Uttar Pradesh will need a lawyer to complete their marriage proceedings. In a cabinet meeting which held on Tuesday, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to make registration of marriages compulsory for all religions and castes.
The cabinet approved the Marriage Registration Rules and Regulations making registration mandatory for the couples in the state. However, the minorities protested against the decision announced.
The BJP spokesperson Dr. Siddharth Nath Singh informed that the marriage registration rules and regulations were approved by cabinet in the meeting. In order to make it effective, it will soon issue a government order.
To make it function smoothly the government sought for suggestions from the citizens. However, a few minority community organisations protested against the decision and called it an interference with personal laws. Despite the protest, the new marriage registration was approved by the government at Tuesday's meeting.
On the other hand, the cabinet also talked about diesel and natural gas, the rates of which have seen a hike after GST roll out. The cabinet decided to make diesel and natural gas available at subsidised rates to those putting up new industries in the state.
Additional to this, a proposal for constructing a new jail in Lalitpur outside city limits was also proposed. The new jail has been proposed to be built with a capacity of 4,500 inmates.
