Yellow Alert In Delhi: CM Kejriwal Announces Level 1 Restrictions Due To Surge In Omicron Cases
The Delhi government has announced a "yellow alert" in the city, that is, level 1 restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan will be imposed in the national capital.
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press conference on Tuesday and announced that though the cases are "mild" and infected Omicron patients are "recovering soon" but both government and citizens will have to work to limit the spread of Covid 19.
He announced a "yellow alert" in the national capital, that is, level 1 restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan will be imposed in the city. Kejriwal said that a detailed order will be released soon regarding the guidelines.
The 'yellow' alert is sounded when Covid positivity rate stays over 0.5 per cent on two consecutive days. It involves restrictions like night curfew, closure of schools and colleges, alternate day opening of shops of non-essential items and halved seating capacity in Metro trains and public transport buses among others.
Earlier during the day, the Delhi CM chaired a meeting with the officials to discuss the rising number of COVID-19 cases and the threat posed by its new variant Omicron.
Kejriwal also took note of the huge crowd recently witnessed at Sarojini Nagar Market and various shopping malls across the city and urged people to wear masks whenever they are in a public place and maintain social distancing so that the Delhi government is not forced to lockdown the city.
The total number of cases of new Omicron variant of COVID-19 recorded in the national capital has mounted to 165, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.
Amid the Omicron scare, Delhi recorded 331 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day rise since June 9 and one death, on Monday, while the positivity rate mounted to 0.68 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.
India has logged 653 cases of the Omicron variant.
