Withdraw CAA Or 'Protestors Will Take To Streets In UP': AIMIM Chief Owaisi Warns Centre

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that if the CAA is not repealed, the protestors will “take to streets in Uttar Pradesh and make another Shaheen Bagh.”

New Delhi: All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday warned the Central government of protests if it did not withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reported ANI. Owaisi said that if the CAA is not repealed, the protestors will “take to streets in Uttar Pradesh and make another Shaheen Bagh.”

He further added, "If the government makes the law on the National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) then we will hit the streets again, we will make Shaheen bagh here too. I myself would come here.”

While addressing a public meeting in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi said, “I demand from the Bharatiya Janata Party government to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).”

He demanded from the Centre that the CAA should be rolled back in the same manner as the three farm laws were.

"The farmers do not trust the government, they say that when the Parliament starts and the bill is introduced, then we will decide," he added.

In the poll bound Uttar Pradesh where Assembly Elections are slated to happen next year, Owaisi’s AIMIM will be contesting 100 seats out of the 403 Assembly seats. As reported by ANI, the AIMIM chief in Lucknow said, “ Our party has decided to contest elections on 100 seats.”

With regard to contesting elections in alliance, Owaisi said that his party is in talks with other parties to form an alliance. “We are in talks with one or two more parties and time will tell, if we form an alliance or not. We are surely in a position to win the elections,” he added.
