West Bengal SSC Scam: Arpita Mukherjee Sent To 1-Day ED Custody, To Be Produced Before Special Court Tomorrow

West Bengal cabinet minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide and actor Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the ED on Saturday in connection with alleged teacher recruitment scam.

New Delhi: Partha Chatterjee's close aide Arpita Mukherjee was sent to one-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate on Sunday after she was produced before the Court in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal, reported news agency ANI. Mukherjee will now be produced before a special court tomorrow, on Monday.  

West Bengal cabinet minister and former education minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide and actor Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the enforcement agency on Saturday in connection with the alleged scam. 

Coordinated searches were launched by the probe agency on Friday at the premises of Partha Chatterjee who is currently the state industries and commerce minister, Arpita Mukherjee, Minister of State for Education Paresh C Adhikary, MLA and ex-president of West Bengal Board of Primary Education Manik Bhattacharya, and a number of other persons.

On Saturday evening Chatterjee was hospitalised after he complained of “uneasiness”. The minister has several health issues and was admitted to the ICCU of the state-run SSKM Hospital hours after the senior minister was remanded to a two-day ED custody by a city court, as per a report by news agency PTI. 

Later he was moved to a cabin after his condition improved “a bit”, a hospital official said as per the report adding that several tests were conducted on the TMC leader including ECG. 

Meanwhile amid attack by the Opposition, the ruling Trinamool Congress said that action will be taken against the leader if charges are proved against him. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also made it clear that presently the party would not remove Chatterjee as a cabinet minister or the secretary general of the Trinamool Congress.
