Maharashtra Govt Takes Strict Approach On Wardha Illegal Abortion Case, Directs Police To Take Further Action

On Monday, the Maharashtra Home Ministry has directed the local police to stay alert.

Wardha Illegal Abortion Case: The state government seems to have sprung into action regarding the illegal abortion case in Arvi city of Wardha, Maharashtra.

On Monday, the Maharashtra Home Ministry has directed the local police to stay alert.

The Home Ministry further directed the local police to keep an eye on such cases and also monitor hospitals. This will enable timely action to be taken and the accused to be punished.

According to the state's Home Ministry, three people, one doctor and 2 nurses have been arrested in the case so far.

The inquiry committee is currently investigating the matter. A total of 6 people have been detained so far in the case. 

Know What Happened

A case of abortion of a 13-year-old girl was reported at a hospital in Arvi. During the investigation, an undergoing illegal abortion racket at the hospital came to light.

Upon further investigation, Police had recovered 11 skulls and 54 bones from the back of the hospital.

Police have widened the scope of the investigation and have handed over all evidence obtained during the investigation, including the seized skulls and bones to biomedical government doctors.

Police have formed a committee comprising of DSP, Police Inspector and Female Police Officers to investigate the case. 

13-Year-Old Girl Had An Abortion

Police had received a tip-off on the illegal abortion of a 13-year-old girl, following which Arvi police launched an investigation into the case.

Evidence of illegal abortion was claimed on January 10.

Police then arrested a doctor and a female nurse working at the hospital. It was only after questioning the duo that the police realised the magnitude of the case.

Police started an investigation at the hospital yesterday and launched a search for evidence related to the illegal abortion of the 13-year-old girl.

The back of the hospital was dug for the purpose of setting up a biogas plant. Police found 11 skulls and 54 bones from the spot during the excavation of the old pit.
