Uttar Pradesh: Rape accused Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati may surrender today
New Delhi: The controversial UP minister Gayatri Prajapati may surrender on Tuesday as he didn't receive relief from Supreme Court, on Monday, in a rape case he is embroiled in. The apex court had asked him to approach concerned court.
Rape accused Samajwadi Party (SP) minister Gayatri Prajapati is till at large and on Monday a plea against his arrest was heard by the Supreme Court.
Prajapati's issue is gaining momentum in the state and even the Governor of the Uttar Pradesh has written a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asking why Gayatri Prajapati is still not removed from the ministerial post.
Recently, Blaming Akhilesh Yadav for "sleeping over" the demand for justice by a "beti" in the rape
case against Gayatri Prajapati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the voters in Uttar Pradesh have got an opportunity to perform the "pind daan" (last rites) of their "tormentors".
He also said that unlike the BJP, its opponents believed in "kuch ka saath, kuch ka hi vikas (with a few, development of a few)".
"In this country, when we do something good, we chant the Gayatri Mantra. But, the SP-Congress alliance is chanting the Gayatri Prajapati Mantra.
"A case has been lodged against him (but) the chief minister went to campaign for him while he (Gayatri) was present there...Now, the police cannot trace him," Modi told an election rally here.
Passport of UP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati already impounded, had said ADG (law and order) Daljit Chaudhary.
