EC must act against Mayawati for openly seeking votes in name of 'religion': BJP
Uttar Pradesh: With political fervor at peak in the state in the wake of assembly elections, Bhartiya Janta Party on Wednesday lashed out at BSP supremo Mayawati and sought from Election Commission to act against her saying that she has been seeking votes in the name of religion.
Mayawati’s main focus in the current elections has been Muslim population of the state, which comprises of approximately 20% of the total voters.
BSP chief had earlier cautioned Muslims in Uttar Pradesh not to split their votes.
Mayawati, while briefing media said, “Muslims would have to be extra cautious in the coming assembly elections and not waste their vote on the Samajwadi Party which she said was on the verge of splitting”.
“The Samajwadi Party has been divided into two. Muslims have to be very careful. They should not divide their votes,” she said.
Amid Mayawati’s claims, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari also came forth in support of Maywati and declared in open that he stands by Maya’s party in these elections.
What is being considered as Mayawati’s desperate attempt, all of a sudden the Muslim leaders seem to have awakened from the sleep which they were in for the last five years and have realised that the SP has ‘marginalised the Muslim community’ in the state.
