UP Man Hacks Into Election Commission's Website To Create Thousands Of Fake Voter IDs, Arrested

Police are probing the source of the money while trying to find more information about the person who had over 10,000 fake voter IDs created over three months.

New Delhi: A 24-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur allegedly hacked into the Election Commission of India (ECI) website and created hundreds of fake voter IDs.

The man identified as Vipul Saini has been arrested by Uttar Police police, officials said on Friday as reported by news agency PTI.

Vipul Saini has a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree and during the initial probe, police found that he worked at the behest of a person identified as Armaan Malik from Madhya Pradesh.

Police stated that Saini completed his BCA from Gangoh village in the Saharanpur district and his father is a farmer.

He created over 10,000 fake voter IDs over three months.

Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police S Channappa told PTI that Saini was paid Rs 100-200 creating for each ID. The police found Rs 60 lakh having been deposited in his bank account when it was examined.

The account was immediately frozen.

Saini's bank account was examined after he was arrested on Thursday from Nakur town's Maccharhedi village in the Saharanpur district.

Police are probing the source of the money while trying to find more information about Malik, who according to Saini used to send him details of the day's work.

Police have also seized two computers from the hacker's home. It was informed that authorities in Delhi will now seek the court's permission to take him to the national capital for further investigation.

The angle of whether Saini is linked to any anti-national or terrorist forces will also be investigated, the police informed.
