Jammu & Kashmir: UN report accuses India of human rights violation, MEA rejects report
UN calls India to urgently repeal the AFSPA, investigate all abuses committed by armed groups and provide reparations and rehabilitation to all injured individuals and to the families of those killed in the context of security operations.
NEW DELHI: In the first 49-page report on human rights in both Indian-administered and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, UN alleged violations in n Kashmir.
India on Thursday rejected the UN report calling it "fallacious, tendentious and motivated". In a strong reaction, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the report is "overtly prejudiced" and seeks to build a "false narrative". It violated the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, it said.
In the report released, the UN talked about alleged human rights violations, abuses and delivery of justice in both "Indian-administered and Pakistan-administered Kashmir" and sought an international inquiry into these abuses.
The reports by the UN also says “In responding to demonstrations that started in 2016, Indian security forces used excessive force that led to unlawful killings and a very high number of injuries. Indian security forces used excessive force that led to unlawful killings and a very high number of injuries."
To this, the MEA responded by saying "India rejects the report. It is fallacious, tendentious and motivated. We question the intent in bringing out such a report". It added that the report is a selective compilation of largely unverified information.
"The report violates India's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Pakistan is in illegal and forcible occupation of a part of the Indian state through aggression," the MEA said.
