After Sentencing, Atiq Ahmed Leaves For Sabarmati Jail With Police Convoy

A police cavalcade carrying gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed left for the Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat Tuesday evening, hours after he was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment in a 2006 kidnapping case by a court in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, a senior official said.

Ahmad was brought from the Sabarmati Central Jail by road for the hearing in the MP-MLA court here. He was kept at the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj before the hearing. (PTI)

Atiq Ahmed To Be Sent Back To Sabarmati Jail In Gujarat

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, who was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case by a court in Prayagraj on Tuesday, will be sent back to Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat. Ahmad was brought from Sabarmati Jail by road for the hearing in an MP-MLA court here. He was kept at the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj before the hearing.

Mafia Property Worth Rs 827 Crore Identified So Far: UP Police

Prashant Kumar ADG, Law and Order, UP, says apart from Atiq Ahmed, Khan Shokar Hanif and Dinesh Pasi have been awarded life imprisonment. "We will completely destroy the mafia economy and expose the criminals. Our action against the mafia will continue. Earlier, 48 mafia members were awarded punishment in the case. Today, the 49th name has been added to that list. So far, mafia property worth Rs 827 crore have been identified."
