“Tripura Police appeals to all not to spread rumours regarding panisagar incident. Please do not retweet or like the social media post without verification since it amounts to endorsing the view. Law and Order situation is under control in the state. #Tripura,” the Tripura Police tweeted.

The Tripura Police also posted on the micro-blogging platform a few photographs of a mosque and said the pictures circulating online were fake.

“Tripura Police appeals to all not to spread rumours. Below are photographs of masjid in Panisagar. It is evident that masjid is safe and secure,” the Tripura Police tweeted.

The statement came two days after a mosque was allegedly vandalised during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally in Chamtilla in Panisagar sub-division of North Tripura district.

In a bid to ensure the law and order is maintained, the prohibitory orders have been put in place in the district.
