During his virtual meeting with CMs, PM Modi urged chief ministers to strengthen their efforts in the coming few-weeks to check the spread of the Covid-19 on a "war-footing".

New Delhi: In his meeting with Chief Ministers of various states and Union Territories (UTs) to take stock of second wave of Coronavirus in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday touched upon several factors responsible for the significant surge in daily number of Covid-19 cases.

During his virtual meeting, PM Modi urged chief ministers to strengthen their efforts in the coming few-weeks to check the spread of the Covid-19 on a "war-footing". PM also stressed on the fact that unlike last year, country today has much more resources to deal with the virus including two effective vaccines.

Meanwhile, the daily count of positive cases of Coronavirus has reached a new record high of over 1.26 lakh on Thursday, despite having dipped to about 20,000 a few weeks back.

PM Modi's Meeting With CMs To Review Covid-19 Surge | 10 POINTS

1. Seeking strictest rules to check whether people are following Covid-19 protocols, PM Modi said that there is a need to improve the governance system. "I understand that because of the one-year battle, the system can experience tiredness and there can be laxity, but we must tighten it for 2-3 weeks and strengthen the governance," he said.

2. Further in his speech, PM Modi emphasised on 'Test, Track, Treat', Covid-appropriate behaviour and Covid management to contain the second wave of Coronavirus in the country.

3. The Prime Minister also backed the decision taken by several states to impose night curfew and other restrictions to check the spread of the infection. He said that such decisions remind people that they still living under threat of Coronavirus and the pandemic is not over yet.

4. Emphasising on increasing the RT-PCR test, PM Modi said that we have to make people aware about how they can catch the infection and aggressive testing is the only way to do this. "I appeal to you all to stress on Covid-19 testing. Our target is to do 70% RT-PCR tests. Let the number of positive cases come high, but do maximum testing. Proper sample collection is very important, it can be checked through proper governance," said PM Modi.

5. Last, but not the least, PM Modi asked CMs to hold 'Tika Utsav' (vaccine festival) from April 11 to April 14 to ensure optimum utilisation of their Covid-19 vaccination capability and inoculate the maximum number of eligible beneficiaries.
