Tejashwi Yadav To Appear Before CBI For Questioning In Land-For-Jobs Case Today

Tejashwi Yadav is to appear for questioning on March 25 at the CBI Headquarters in Delhi at 10.30 am.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday, March 25, 2023, in the case related to the alleged ‘land for jobs’ scam.

During the hearing of Tejashwi Yadav's petition in the Delhi High Court, the CBI said that it will not arrest the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar this month. After this Tejashwi Yadav agreed to appear before the CBI. Tejashwi Yadav is to appear for questioning on March 25 at the CBI Headquarters in Delhi at 10.30 am.

The statement was made before a single judge bench led by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma in Yadav's petition seeking an order to dismiss summons issued by the agency to the RJD leader on February 28, March 4, and March 11.

Yadav had claimed that Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was not followed in the case, which states that a "police officer can only summon a person who is within the confines of his own or a neighbouring police station." In Yadav's instance, the plea claims that he is a resident of Patna and is asked to participate in the inquiry in Delhi, "which is neither within the jurisdiction of Patna nor adjacent to the same."

Yadav's attorney had said, "Three summonses have been delivered in 11 days. We had to check my wife into the hospital following the raid since she is pregnant. I've included my passport here. It has my address. The legislative assembly's budget session continues through April 5." He further stated that his client can appear physically after the session concludes and via video conference till then.

Land For Jobs Scam Case

In its charge sheet, the CBI claims that "irregular appointments" were made in the Railways in contravention of norms. It claims that in exchange for work, individuals who acquired them sold land to the Yadavs at steep discounts.

According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the current market value of land allegedly purchased in return for jobs by Lalu Yadav's family is around 200 crore.

The ED has identified assets allegedly obtained by Yadav's family following searches at 24 addresses in Delhi, Patna, Mumbai, and Ranchi.

According to the central agency, it discovered 1 crore in cash, $1,900 in foreign currency, 540 gramme gold bullion, over 1.5 kilogramme of gold jewellery worth 1.25 crore, and property certificates in the names of Yadav's family members.
