'Students Must Shun Godse’s Path': Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Insists On Embracing Gandhi, Ambedkar & Periyar

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin also underscored the value of education, calling it a “permanent asset” and the foundation for Tamil Nadu’s collective progress.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday urged students to stay away from divisive ideologies and instead follow the inclusive, reformist paths shown by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar, and Periyar. Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchirappalli, Stalin emphasised the importance of political awareness and unity among youth.

'Never Go On Path Of Godse's Camp': Stalin

Stalin said: "There are several pathways for us; like the way shown by Gandhiji, Dr Ambedkar and Periyar. You students should never go on the path of Godse's camp." His remarks referenced Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, and were seen as a warning against extremist ideologies.

The Chief Minister also underscored the value of education, calling it a “permanent asset” and the foundation for Tamil Nadu’s collective progress. “If we stand united as One Tamil Nadu, no force can defeat us,” he added, urging students to come together in the interest of the state's future.

Clarifying that his message was not politically charged, Stalin said, “I’m not talking politics.”

In a strong message of reassurance to the Muslim community, he reaffirmed the DMK’s commitment to protecting minority rights. "Students must unite with the spirit of ‘One Tamil Nadu’ to protect the state. I will be your steadfast supporter in that cause,...The DMK will always be a movement that protects the rights of Muslims. That is my firm promise to you," he said.

Stalin was speaking during the inauguration of the Global Jamalians Block, part of the Platinum Jubilee Year celebrations of Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchirappalli.
