Supreme Court Rejects Prajwal Revanna's Bail Plea In Sexual Assault Case
The top court dismissed his bail plea today noting that he has several cases against him.
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant bail to former JD(S) Member of Parliament (MP) Prajwal Revanna in the rape and sexual assault case against him.
A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed the plea by Revanna.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Revanna admitted that "the allegations are serious," but argued that the complaint did not have a specific allegation of rape. However, Justice Trivedi then pointed that there are several other complaints against him.
The senior counsel further urged the court to consider bail saying that chargesheet is filed and Revanna surrendered after coming back from abroad.
Rohatgi further told the court that Revanna had lost in the Lok Sabha elections because of the case and requested the court to allow him to approach the court again for bail after six months. However, the bench refused to grant him bail and on allowing him to reapporach the court, the bench remaked, "we won't say anything."
The top court dismissed his bail plea today noting that he has several cases against him. There are two rape cases against the JD(S) leader and a sexual assault case. Prajwal Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura JD(S) MLA H D Revanna and grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
On October 21, the Karnataka High Court had rejected both regular bail and anticipatory pleas of Revanna.
In August, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka which is probing four cases of sexual assault and harassment against Revanna submitted a 2,144-page chargesheet.
The chargesheet relates to a case in which the former MLA is accused of raping a woman, who worked as a domestic help for his family.
Recently, the Supreme Court upheld the anticipatory bail granted to his mother Bhavani Revanna, in the case over alleged kidnapping of a complainant.
